Toddler leash?

Question

What are some of your thoughts on using a toddler leash? I live in Canada Toronto and yesterday was the Santa clause parade and my mother asked me if I ever suggested getting a leash for my toddler as he likes to run and I never imagined using it as I was against it but maybe it’s a good idea?

You can get like a backpack with a leash nowadays and I think that's pretty awesome 😊

I used to not understand them and then I had a little cousin who would just take off into the middle of highways and parking lots. Until you have a child that’s like that you don’t get to have an opinion.

I don't think anyone should have an opinion on leashes themselves, tbh. Some kids need them, some don't. My 5 y/o and 2 y/o never would. My 4 y/o doesn't in normal places like the store but would somewhere crowded like a parade, the zoo, etc. because he's a wanderer, he's nonverbal, and he doesn't respond to his name. He will hold my hand but if I have to drop his hand somewhere crowded, he could be gone before I turn around.

Better safe than dead. Some kids need them, some kids don’t. Make the choice for your child, and screw anyone else’s opinion

My daughter never needed one, but my younger sister really did (me and the rest of my siblings didn’t). It depends on the kid.

It takes less than 2 seconds for a toddler to run away in a crowded area. My brothers used to pull that on my mom all the time, one go one way and the other one goes the opposite. If it keeps your kids safe, do what you have to do. Your kid doesn’t think they’re being treated like a dog, that is a perspective totally pushed by adults

I use them and my son is 6. I will do what I need to do in order to keep my child safe. I am 100% for them. They come in a variety of options!

My daughter has ADHD, she wouldn’t be alive without that harness. She as a toddler had non sense of danger or impulse control (she still lacks impulse control) generally she used to run in whatever direction she felt like. The Harness gave her the freedom to walk but gave me the control and the piece of mind.

My youngest is 2 & he's a runner. I'd 100% use a backpack leash for him. Unfortunately he hates it & throws himself on the ground when he's on it so we stick to strollers for now.

We love ours and our daughter (2 yrs) likes it too. We have a harness type one so she thinks she’s wearing a backpack like her big brother. We bought it mostly for hiking in the mountains because she bolts and I was worried she’s go over a ledge before we could catch her. But she likes to wear it around town too.
