Do I ask for it off or call in sick?

My fiancé works a ton of hours and rarely takes time off. I had a co-worker already request the week of Christmas off. Then we had someone go on emergency maternity leave. I kind of assumed that I couldn’t take any time because we have to cover each other’s desks. 
I specifically told my fiancé that I had to work(I’m 100% remote) and he said he’d probably work too. Then today he asked if I was off next week because he was. 
My question is, I know it’s short notice but do I ask for Thursday and Friday off? I’d like to spend some time together. Or do I just call in sick?

Advice people give on, jobs don't need a reason, just call in... horrible advice. 
1. Every job is different, they can't speak to your handbook and policy. 
2. Call in with no reasoning, it does look worse on you. 
3. Companies have policies with sick days, mine is 3 days in a row you need to hand in a doctor's note. And you only get 5 sick days a year. After that, it's unpaid sick days, you don't get to use your unlimited PTO for call ins. 
4. I 100% would never call in and add negative marks to my name at my job to just hang out and spend time together. Sorry but I wouldn't. You are engaged, it's not like you won't ever be able to spend time together again. Why risk your job to just hang out?

Highly depends on your specific job and also how much you like you that job. Some jobs calling in isn't a big deal, other jobs is detrimental to them and to you. Some jobs are really flexible when people request time, others aren't.

I mean really they don’t need a reason. You could just put a request in for those days off. But you run the risk of it getting denied because there’s already at least 2 people scheduled to have those days off. So you’re probably better off calling in imo.

You can ask for time off officially, and if it gets denied that sucks.. but you'll just have to work then.
You can tell them why you're requesting time off but often it doesn't change anything.
Calling in sick looks really bad on your part especially when you have asked to be off work and it got denied. It's seen as dishonesty.
