Why Is he so bothered that girls talk to him?

This guy I’m talking to is going through a really hard time!!! However he likes me and has told me he’s not in the right state of mind. He’s super respectful and has done things a bf would do.

He’s brought me lunch to my job. He’s given me flowers, he holds my hand if we go out to the park…. Etc etc

Today he face timed me while being at the gym cause he said he misses my face. 5 min into the call some girl gets close to him and says “get off the phone”

He looks pist. I was kinda jealous but played it cool. I said “who’s that? I’ll let you go ….like if you want to train her or something “ he offers help at the gym to anyone honestly. That’s why I said that not because I was being petty

He got mad with me and said “stop I don’t know her that some weird shit right there….you’re not getting off the phone….stay on here cause those girls are coming back and I don’t want to talk to them” I think those girls come back and he goes “stay on the phone cause I have a baby “ he said it so loud and I’m lost saying “what baby??” He just laughs

We video chat while he’s working out for 25 min and he leaves. He tells me thanks for being on camera with him but that those girls ruined his workout.

I said “maybe they thought you were cute and trying to talk to you” I mean he’s free to talk to whoever….

He said “no I’m not in the right space to be dealing with that shit….that was weird for them to tell me that when I don’t even know them”

He throws me a kiss on camera …But if he’s going through a lot why is he doing all this with me??? Like being lovey and everything yet gets so mad if girls hit on him

Update: he texted me he got home and his workout was shit because those girls ruined it. I kept asking “but why does this bother you…. don’t take it seriously….just ignore them and focus on your workout” he never replied and left on read …I don’t understand why this bugged him so much…..
