Should I try acutane?

McKenzie

So I've had acne for the past 8-ish years. It's never been horrible but it's been consistent and more than just the occasional pimple. I have deep hormonal acne on my cheeks/chin/jawline and some bumps on my forehead. I only recently went to the dermatologist for this issue. I've been on spironolactone and tretinoin for the past 3 months with no signs of progress so my derm decided to add birth control as well. I have another check up in 3 months and I'm worried that the birth control won't work. I didn't want to take acutane because of its extensive list of side effects (my derm even said during my first appointment that she wouldn't immediately recommend it based on my skin currently). However, my derm brought up the option of acutane again during my last appointment and I'm thinking that it may be something for me to try if the birth control doesn't work. Anyone with experience with acutane willing to share their story? I'm nervous to try it and would like to hear some other stories/experiences. (Also, it's my first time taking birth control so any advice on that is also welcomed)
