Am I wrong for telling my daughter I'm not gonna speak to her teacher?
My daughter started college back in August and she didn't do so hot in her classes. She pulled C's and D's but comply failed comp 1. My daughter is supposed to get accommodations like more time on test, a private test taking area, notes etc. My daughter wants me to talk to her teacher about her grade for her because her teacher never accommodated her. Well my daughter also never brought up her accommodations to her teacher. And her teacher put in the syllabus to check with her if you have accommodations. My daughter never spoke to her teacher about it not once. I told my asked my daughter why she waited until the semester was over to mention her accommodations. Like she didn't say anything during the 4 exams they have or any other point in the semester. My daughter said she didn't think she had to. I said "Well if you know you aren't getting your accommodations then yes you should let her know." My daughter said that she heard some teachers purposely don't give their students the accommodations in the beginning hoping they say nothing. I said "I mean I guess that's possible. But it's also possible she has many students when many different accommodations and she may have just forgot." I told my daughter to speak to disability services. I'm not sure what they will do since she went a whole semester not mentioning her accommodations and she's only now mentioning it two weeks after the semester is over. Plus my daughter got an 11%. Even without her accommodations I just feel like an 11 percent is really low. But she asked me to do it all for her. I said no because she needs to learn to do that herself. She's in college now. She needs to be able to speak up. She chose not to tell her teacher what she needed and now she's paying for it. She has to talk to them herself. My daughter is upset with me and my mom is saying I'm being a jerk but I don't think I am.
