Kids lack personal hygiene in summer…..

🥺

My kiddos are on summer break currently and the lack of hygiene is at an all time high! I can tell them to go shower until I’m blue in the face and most of those request are ignored until I lose my shit.

I walked in the bathroom after my oldest was in there to straighten up for her brother (only 2 kids) so he didn’t slip and fall. I noticed she didn’t put out the other body wash. I used the last of the other bottle last night and didn’t put the new one out on PURPOSE.

I walked to her and asked if she washed her body thoroughly. She said yes. I said “what soap did you use?” She replied “the soap in the shower.” I said oh? Which one was it? Can you show me?” As we walked to the bathroom you can tell she’s getting nervous for her lies. I said “now which soap was it again?” She couldn’t tell me because there wasn’t any soap out. I told her “You didn’t have to lie, if you would have told me you needed the body wash I would have handed it to you, it was right on the sink. Next time do NOT lie over if you washed your body or not. Your going to middle school soon and need to stay on top of hygiene.” She retook her shower and washed with SOAP!

My issue is- my son does the same. He refuses to use soap! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have special soap out for him because he doesn’t want to use my “girly smelling soap”. He STILL WONT USE IT! 😕 He’s 7! This just started the last few months. It’s time consuming watching him shower to make sure he’s actually washing up.

My husband told me he wants me to start “Smelling the kids”….. ABSOLUTELY NOT! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 He doesn’t understand why I don’t want to smell their body and underarms. 🫢 When I refused and told him I did my job by giving them the necessities, reminding them how to wash, and to use body soap; he got upset and said fine I’ll start smelling their armpits man I don’t want my kids made fun of at school. Well…. Neither do I, but I damn sure ain’t going to smell their underarms or body after every shower.

Am I wrong to deny smelling my kids and keeping up the way I’ve been doing things? Am I wrong for saying this is a lesson they need to learn from and if someone points out their odor it’s on them because they failed to care for their body appropriately AFTER I’ve shown and told them how to do it multiple times. They are 7 and almost 12.
