Surgery + weaning? Advice?

Ki

I’m trying to figure out the best way to do this. My daughter is breastfed. She turns one on October 13th. She still nurses up to 8 times a day, including multiple times at night (comfort nursing?) I will be having surgery to correct a deviated septum October 24th. I won’t be breastfeeding while on the heavy painkillers, hopefully I’ll only need them the first day or two.

I know she won’t require breastmilk anymore but she is nowhere near ready to wean. My husband is taking a couple days off work but I know those few days and nights will be rough. I feel like my only option is to force her to wean once she hits 12 months so we have a week of “preparation” but that honestly makes me a bit sad as I was going to let her decide when to wean. What should we do?
