Husband made me feel horrible for opening up about something I wanted to try in bed

Sex life has been really dead and dull , so I opened up to my husband about something I'd like to try. It wasn't anything crazy in my opinion. It was mask play, like him wearing a Halloween mask during with some role play. I'm perfectly okay with him not liking it or not wanting to do it . The issue is he absolutely berated me and told me I was a "fucking weirdo" and I am into "stupid shit" and said it was disgusting and I have psychological issues. He got so upset and was so mean !!!! He made me feel like a deranged sex freak or something. He said so much I don't even want to repeat it. I'm so hurt, and now it's like he's turned off since then. I brought it up SUPER casually, not pushy just mentioned I was into it.

How do I get past this with him how do I explain how his reaction was uncalled for? :(
