Did I leave my ex for the wrong reasons?

I left my ex because I wanted an open relationship and that’s not what he wanted so we ended the relationship because of that. He was pissed off and thought I was “toxic” because I wanted an open relationship and that’s not what he believes in. We were together for a few years and did everything together and he loved and cared about me. Does this make me look trashy now?

You’d be trashy or toxic if you felt this way & stayed with him & did something like cheat on him behind his back. You were honest with him & communicated what you wanted. Nothing trashy or toxic about that. Sometimes people have different needs/desires in life. Some people aren’t compatible when those needs don’t align. You were not wrong for breaking up, nor did you break up for the wrong reasons. You should always be true to yourself, even if others don’t agree. Don’t compromise who you are for someone else.

If y’all want two different things than being together would be the wrong thing. It would only make things terrible between y’all. You did the right thing. Of course he’s going to be upset and tell you how he feels about it but ignore him. It’s your life and you need to be happy. And honestly he’ll be happier later when he realizes being with someone who doesn’t align with what you want is more toxic than leaving and doing what you feel is best for you.

I mean, it sucks that you were in a relationship for a few years, I can understand how and why he’s upset. But! You did the right thing since you want something and he’s not into it. Rather than you cheat, breaking up is the right thing.
