For all teachers of very young kids, parents and anyone that wants to chime in, please do.

My son is in kindergarten. Started a month ago. Just turned 6. An only child. He went to PreK two days a week last year. He loves school. He wakes up every morning happy to go. Prefers weekdays over weekends. He has a wonderful and patient teacher. But he is struggling a lot with emotions. He is having crying/screaming fits that last 5-10 minutes, will cry when something doesn’t go his way, cry when a friend is mean to him. He will return bad behavior like hitting, which has never been a problem before.

I’ve been told the transition is hard and takes time. But how much is enough? What would you do in this situation? Give grace? Punish? Reward? Seek additional professional help? Give more time for adjustment?

Please any and all advice.
