Why would my boyfriend all the sudden seem distant about moving in together when he wasn’t before?

We have been together for a few months and a month ago we talked about moving in together and he wanted me to move in with him. We had plans to move in together in a few years from now.  All the sudden he said he wishes he had his own place without saying he wishes me and him had his own place together. Why do you think would he be distant about it all the sudden when I want a future and to move in with him?

It’s too early to be talking abt moving in anyways, and with it being so early he might’ve spoken too soon and realized there are things that you do that he doesn’t like and doesn’t want to live with you. That’s why you should get to know someone for a while before moving in.

I think it's good for people to live on their own before they move in with other people. I don't think it really has any bearing on your relationship. In fact, if your relationship is strong, then it will certainly survive him having his own place. I would give him some grace and be ok with him getting a place on his own first. You should do the same for yourself as well. I'm a big fan of the idea that everyone should live alone for a period of time before living with a partner. It's such an important part of getting to know yourself. The better you know yourself, the better a relationship with another person will be. I would not take offense to what he said. You said yourself moving in together won't be for years down the line, so let him explore living on his own first and then down the line, the two of you can move in together still. He is not taking away from your plans, just adding a plan of his own in between. ￼
