Shared Office Space
My husband is currently on parental leave and goes back to work mid-January. I had our second child 3 months ago and we waited to turn my old office/guest room into a nursery for her till after family had visited. Since he isn’t using the office, I moved my desk in there bc it was the only logical solution.
My work allows me to be fully remote 40 hrs per week even though there is an office headquarters in town. Barely any people go into the office that aren’t required to. My husband’s job requires him to be in the office 3 days per week. We have a 4 bedroom house and 2 kids so that only leaves a single room for an office now.
My husband and I disagree on what to do about our WFH situations after his leave is up. I suggested we try and both use the office but put some kind of divider up. He says that won’t work. He needs his own room/space. He wants to put his desk in our master bedroom where I at one point had my desk 4 yrs ago but had to relocate after just 6 months bc being in there all day and night took a toll on my mental health. My husband also eats at his desk and is oblivious to how much he drops. I really would prefer no food in our bedroom as that isn’t something we allow currently.
To compromise I’m suggesting I ask for a permanent desk assignment at my office and go in 2 (or maybe 3) days a week to work. That way we can share the office but have less of an overlap on WFH schedules. I would be in my office when it’s his turn to WFH and vice versa. Issue he says with that is he prefers to come home at lunch on his required office days to finish the day so we would overlap some afternoons. He refuses to commit to stay at the office a full day for even one of his in office days. Then he tried to say I was gaslighting him into sharing the office. I’m not seeing how I’m gaslighting him by suggesting a compromise that would mean me trading WFH days for in office days when my work doesn’t require it. AITAH here? We cannot afford to buy a bigger 5 bedroom house to have two offices.
