What sounds like a better idea

Question

My boyfriend & I are going on a roadtrip from Ohio to Savannah Georgia. It’s a 10.5 hour drive (that is with no stops, but it will probably be closer to 12 or 13 hours after you factor in stops, bathroom breaks, eating etc).

We are going to leave as soon as I get off work at 1:45pm on Tuesday. So I’ll get home around 2:15pm and we will need to pack up the car so we will probably leave around 3:00pm if we are making good timing.

Should we drive all the way through, probably making it to our Savannah hotel around 3:00am, or should we stop at a hotel half away there?

Pros of driving all the way there: I think we will end up having more time in Savannah, will only have to deal with 1 hotel so less of a hassle

Cons: we will be super tired, will get to bed really late so will probably sleep most of the day away on Wednesday, will be rushing to get there

Corny me here, but it's about the journey, not the destination. We used to do road trips so much when my kids were young, and we used to always feel so rushed to get there soon too, until my husband got so sick, he ended up in the hospital our entire vacation. After that we only flew, or took slow paced journeys. If I were you, I would look for a town mid-way that sounds interesting and you can explore. I would romanticize my night there, going out to explore the town, finding a romantic restaurant, finding the best desert there, seeing the main free attractions, going to the town plaza and getting some cute pictures, you get the gif, but, whatever you decide, I hope you guys have a lot of fun!!!

I've done the driving all the way getting to the hotel at 3am . It wasn't as far because it was Orlando to New Orleans. But even that royally sucked by the time we got there .

Sleeping the day away Wednesday would negate any extra time you feel like you’ll have in Savanah.  You’d still need your Savannah hotel reservation to begin on Tuesday even though you wouldn’t be checking in until very early Wednesday and you’ll need to make sure you confirm they know your ETA and don’t consider you a no show or give the room away.  If it were me I’d be making sure the car was packed, gassed, and ready to go as soon as I got home from work and hit the road.  I’d drive until 9 or 10 that night and leave early the next day and have plenty of time to start exploring before checking into the hotel.

I actually dont think it's safe to drive that long overnight without sleep. My grandfather died young because he fell asleep at the wheel driving a long distance at night with lack of sleep. I would get the hotel, get your rest, maybe plan it someplace fun and spend a couple hrs there so it's part of your trip.

I would drive through. Is there anyway to get out of work earlier? I would also pack food for the car, I would stop for gas and to pee but I wouldn’t add time for meals. Also, I wouldn’t sleep the day away the next day, one night of bad sleep wouldn’t hurt. 3am-9am is reasonable sleep to get through one day and get back on a normal schedule.

You could stop in Charlotte, NC. It’s a nice place to stop and you’d see another destination
