Ugh! My baby won’t sleep!

Taylor

My daughter is almost 6 months old and has never been a great sleeper. We’ve co-slept since birth, but over the past month, I’ve been trying to transition her to her crib. She also doesn’t nap well at home—she’ll sometimes fall asleep in the car or with me if I have time to lay down too, but that’s about it.

At school, though, she naps so well. Apparently, she doesn’t fight them at all and will sleep anywhere from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten her to nap that long at home.

She absolutely won’t sleep on her back—not an option. She will sleep on her stomach, and for about a week, things were getting better. She was sleeping 2.5–4 hours before her first wake-up, and I could get her back in the crib for another 2 hours. I was still bringing her into my bed around 2 a.m., since it was so hard to settle her otherwise.

But the past three nights have been rough. She won’t let me transfer her to her crib at all—not even on her belly. She’s been waking almost every hour to nurse, but she’s not really awake. She just wants to suckle and won’t unlatch, but she also can’t keep herself latched—so I’m basically awake all night.

It’s really discouraging. My son was never like this. He also woke throughout the night, but I wasn’t nursing, and I could get him back in his crib.

If I stop nursing, will it get better? Is there another way to help her sleep?

I’m so tired.
