How do you feel about only children?

My son is almost 2, and people ask me when or if I'm going to have another one. I have the room, it's just I don't think I really WANT another child. I think a lot of people get anxious over having their "heir and spare" as morbid as that is. I love him so much, and taking care of him is a breeze. I don't think I would do well with another child. I physically get worn out so easily, and mentally I like to have my alone time to recharge. I'm also a SAHM for the time being, but won't always be a SAHM. There are people who say it's cruel to do this because when my husband and I pass away he will be alone. I do agree with that, but I also know so many people who are not close to their siblings at all so it's not always a guarantee. I'm 28 as well, so physically it just gets worse every year 😆 also have had people tell me that sons don't take care of their elderly parents so I need to try for a girl. Like ??? No? I also unfortunately don't have a village. I have to bring him with me to just about everything, and I don't have anyone to watch him for the day if I ever need a break. 
How do you feel about only children? Do you think it's cruel?

I think you know what's right for your family and no one has the right to tell you you need to have more or less children. You should do what's right for you and your family and that's not going to be the same as other people's family. 
Just a plug for boys, they do take care of their parents. That is exactly what my husband and I are doing now it takes care of his parents.

I have 4 kids but it's funny cuz my best friend has only 1 and hes 6 now.....her husband was an only child and hated it but my best friend hated having a sister because they never got along and now dont even speak as adults, so she wished she wouldve been an only child LOL so theyve had this same discussion a LOT. I dont think anyone's ideology or wishes should dictate another's family planning. Interestingly, my friend and her husband are much closer to *his* parents so obviously they fostered a great relationship w their only son, which is what matters most.

I had 1 child with my ex husband & he was an only child for 10 years. When my current husband & I decided to have kids I said were either having 2 or none at all. One child is great because it’s more affordable, but they have nobody to play with & rely on you. I grew up with a sibling 4 years younger than me I we played together 24/7 my entire childhood.

I have two sisters and I could not imagine my life without them, especially my childhood. but I think it’s okay to have only one if you still make them interact with other kids their age.

I thought for a long time that we would only have one child. She’s almost 7 now, and we are expecting a baby boy in 5 weeks. There’s nothing wrong with having just one kid, there’s nothing wrong with waiting to decide, there’s nothing wrong with deciding now and changing your mind later. There’s only thing that matters is the happiness and satisfaction levels in both you and your child’s life. My husband was an only child and while there were downfalls, overall he loved being the focus and not having to compete with siblings. I am the 4th child in a family of 6 kids. While there were downfalls, I ultimately loved having a big family. With my own kids I love that there will be a big age gap, as raising a child takes a lot of mental energy and physical energy. It didn’t start getting easier for us until she hit 5 years old. She makes friends through her extracurricular activities, like at gymnastics and in our homeschool groups and at church. She doesn’t really want for anything, because having only one child has benefitted her in that way. We can afford to give her what she wants and needs because we haven’t had additional children. Now, the age gap is so large that this won’t really be affected. We had time to prepare for another child and their interests at this age will be vastly different.

Im about to have 4, but I don’t see anything wrong with only having 1. He also may grow up to have his own wife and children and live a happy life. I grew up with siblings and Im not gonna lie it was great. But you can’t miss what you never had either lol. Now that we are grown we do talk but I live in a different city from my siblings so the family i created is really my whole life. I don’t see my siblings often.
