starting birth control

i recently got a prescription for the birth control patch im not sure what brand yet. my mom’s been wanting me to go on birth control since i got in a relationship and i didn’t want to go on it because i don’t like the idea of being on long term “medication” and not knowing what my side effects are going to be on it. but i talked to my doctor about it im going on the patch i wasn’t recommended an iud i didnt want it in my arm and i didnt want the responsibility of taking a pill every. im nervous but maybe i wont have horrible side effects and maybe it will help with cramps or my periods or acne etc. im still super nervous about going on it any advice on starting the patch, how to be less nervous etc. my doctor told me it could take up to 6 months to regulate my hormones and that seems not so fun. let me know advice or your experience on the patch! anddd a recommended location i wear tight jeans and stuff so i dont think my stomach would be good but maybe arm or back? where do you put yours?
