Breastfeeding in public?

Hi, this is my first time breastfeeding. My son just turned a month old. I have yet to be out and about too much but I’m strictly breastfeeding and not bottle feeding as I don’t want him to get more used to bottles than breast. I have a nursing cover but I have only tried using it once and my son didn’t care for it and was really fussy for some reason. Are there any tips on different tricks when using nursing covers to make it easier/more comfortable for baby? I might have been using it wrong or too tight around my neck but it just seems like I was wearing a huge tshirt and couldn’t see my son lol.
