Boyfriend loves dogs and cats but I’m highly allergic

Any compromise ideas because I’ve tried to live with a dog in the past and it made me very sick. I’ve been on every allergy medication and even gave myself shots for 3 years and nothing. When my family had a “hypoallergenic” dog I was still getting sick all the time. it wasn’t until I went off to college I realized how bad having a pet was to my health. He’s understanding but know he’s upset about not having one in future. I feel such guilt over it when we want to continue to get serious in our relationship. I’ve had many friends, roommates and family leave me in the past over this. Makes me feel so worthless and I can’t do anything about it. It’s already hard enough that I love animals and can’t even touch them 😞
