Attn teachers: whats your salary?

Im looking into jobs/careers and the salary info online is quite mixed and inconsistent. I know it depends on area. If you or someone close to you is a teacher (elementary - high school) do you mibd sharing the approx salary?

Be a teacher because you have a passion for teaching. On the whole, teachers are underpaid for the amount of work they do and how emotionally invested they are. If the salary is the draw for you, i'd choose something else. I have 3 friends who work as teachers and the only one who makes a decent amount is a university professor.

I am a high school teacher and college professor. I make 135,000 a year with my two careers. I work for a well funded district and I have 2 master’s degrees.

In my city teachers only make $32k a year and not a penny more. Over an hour away in my home town, the nearest town, they make $57k starting out with just a bachelor's. With a Master's and experience the pay raises.

I’m not a teacher and in Chicago and suburbs the pay will vary wildly depending on the district and experience.  I have a friend who’s a catholic grade school teacher with a master’s degree and 10+ years experience and she makes about 42k.  Another friend in a public district by me started out as a teacher but is now the literacy coach.  With almost 25 years experience she is about $80k.  An entry level teacher in the Chicago public school system is about $45k.  My actual high school district ranges from $55k to 144k depending on education and experience.

This varies massively by location. Not just state but even town to town. I have a master’s and 11 years experience. Before taxes, my salary is around 63K. My husband with the same experience and no master’s is 60K. However, a year ago, my husband’s salary was 41K due to a flawed pay model that prevented him from every getting a raise. Thankfully, our community passed a referendum to increase salaries to competitive levels.

I am a public school teacher with 19 years experience. I have a BA, a multiple subject credential, a reading specialist credential, a masters degree, and half of another masters degree. I teach and live in Southern California, Los Angeles County specifically. I’m on a 10 month contract, but my pay is annualized, so it’s spread across 12 months. My net salary each month is $4480.

It also depends public verses private school. Typically private schools pay teachers less less (at least in my area) but not always.  I do know one local private k-8 school near me has a max teacher salary of 37k for bachelors degree and 42k for masters degree, but thats the max salary so you typically start lower than that and get promotions over time to hit that number.
