When to buy baby’s first pair of shoes?

My son took his first steps at 9 months, he’s now 10 months and walks the majority of the time we’re in the house and stands unassisted, he doesn’t like to be in his pushchair for too long anymore and is always desperate to get out. I’m wondering when I should buy him some shoes and let him start practicing walking with me?

I would get some now. Barefoot is best when possible, but obviously have to wear shoes for hot pavement and glass etc in public spaces. I start my new walkers out on barefoot shoes that have very flexible soles so they can still feel the ground. Comfy for them, and healthy for their feet!

I would do it now. Just make sure it's a proper soled shoe and not a crib shoe of you're buying online

For out of the house at that age we got leather bottom shoes so that it was close to being barefoot

Barefoot is honestly the best. Babies use their toes for more than just balance. They use their feet to determine how far away from object they are. Since he hasn't been walking for a long time I would continue to let babe be barefoot or use the grippy socks. If you're absolutely dead set on shoes I would personally take them to a shoe store and have their foot measured. You want shoes that fit and have a very flexible sole. Having shoes that fit properly aids in proper foot development which is so important. Some good shoes to start with are Stride Rites
