Am I the asshole for not telling my husband I ran into my former best guy friend?

This situation is extremely complicated and I don't feel like divulging everything but I was friends with this guy for 14 years. We haven't spoken in 5 years now. This is where it gets complicated. He married my husband's sister so he is family now. Me and him fell out and we can both agree the falling out was over something dumb. But then my husband and husband his sister had a MASSIVE fall out. It was very bad and involves some touchy subjects. Honestly me and him would reconcile if it weren't for our spouses which is why being friends again really isn't possible right now. They had their first child back in October and we had our second in January. Neither me or my husband have met our nephew and our kids have not met each other. It sucks that the kids will have to suffer because of all of us. I ran into him a couple days ago and got to meet and hold my nephew for the first time and we did talk. I feel bad that I haven't told my husband but I just feel like it will cause more drama.

Edit: The issue is him and his sister have kind of not wanted our two families to communicate at all because they're both mad at each other.
