In desperate need of some girly advice!

So… I started dating a guy about 4 years ago, we were in a serious relationship for 1.5 years, broke up, got back together 8 weeks later for another 1.5 years which brings us to last January. He decided that I was into the relationship more than he was and it made him feel suffocated (which I now understand is because he’s an avoidant and I was an anxious, now leaning more towards secure).

Christmas just gone, he came back into my life (funnily enough he got hacked on FB and the hacker made a post and tagged me in it) and we’ve been chatting on and off. Little bit flirty but generally just normal chat, maybe once every two weeks.

Last Monday he asked me if I wanted to go to a pub quiz (of course I said yes, I still very much love this man) and we chatted for hours and hours, during which he told me his plan is to move to Bristol (currently lives in south west London). My heart absolutely sank but I had to hide it. I ended up staying over and saw him again on Friday just gone, again stayed over, but he asked me if I wanted to see the new dune movie. To which I said “I know you’re moving away eventually, so I need to protect myself as it’s very difficult for us to be just friends” he agreed and understood.

I now don’t know what to do. This is the most effort he’s ever made, I’m not sure if it’s because he’s lonely, or he’s realised he still has feelings for me, or whatever it is. Should I just have fun until he goes away and see where it goes? Or just cut all contact off now? I’m so worried I won’t ever move on from him. In the last year and a bit that I haven’t seen him, I’ve dated around to try and move on but unfortunately it’s just him that I think of. It’s so hard, and I don’t know what to do :(
