Wrong to ask friends to pay their share of bday trip?

I am planning a 3 night trip to Disney World for my big birthday coming up. I want to invite four friends, three of them already having annual passes. I want to do some special restaurants and ticketed events, plus the cost of the resort, so I am looking at about $500 per person. I cannot pay $2,500 for everyone. Is it wrong to ask my friends to pay their share of the trip for MY birthday celebration?

Them paying their own way absolutely SHOULD be expected. I’ve never once planned a trip with friends and not assumed I would pay for myself.

I feel like theres a lot of misinterpretation in situations like this. Ive seen a LOT where someone was invited on big expensive vacations like this and was not told that they had to oay for themselves so they didnt because they were INVITED and assumed it would be paid for. In situations like that, the person was almost always raised with the mindset "if you invite someone somewhere, you pay for that person". I say invite them, but definitely disclose that they would need to pay their own ticket/hotel/etc (or whatever you will not be covering) PLUS a couple hundred extra for emergencies or unexpected costs and such and let them decide for themselves.

Im conflicted honestly. If brought up in a years advance i dont see the issue. But if this is just thrown on them then yeah this is a issue. Planning a trip they should also get a say in what they want to do. Not you picking the places and they paying for what YOU want to do unless this is an agreementbetween all of yall
