Husband doesnt want to file jointly
I filed my taxes yesterday. I do freelance work, since we got married he refused to file jointly. My accountant asked me why because this causes me to owe way more taxes than i would filling jointly and also i don’t get any return at the end. I asked my husband and he says he doesn’t want to file jointly because he doesn’t want to be involved in my finances. My husband is on military disability and doesn’t have to file, he says he doesn’t want his name on my taxes at all. He says he has nothing to do with my small business. He says filling jointly has no benefit for him. We have two little kids and me paying less is a benefit as a family. If the roles were reversed i would file jointly. Im not irresponsible. My freelancing has sustained me and at some point US when he didn’t have military disability. Im so hurt by this, im honestly considering leaving because his way of thinking is very selfish to me. We go 50/50 on bills while i do all the child and home care and then when it comes to tax time i still pay more. Last yr i owed $3000. This year im looking at 5k.
I claim the kids and i get nothing for them.
He doesnt file at all
It wont affect his disability. He says he just doesnt want to be involved in my stuff.
