Parents: if you now know how parenting is, would you do it again if you could go back in time?

Secret parents-regret is a real thing that people are starting to talk about more and more. I don't have kids but I hear it from time to time around me from colleagues and friends which makes me  doubtful if I should become one. So, how do you feel about it?

I’ve never regretted having children and do not know a single person in my life who’s regretted having kids.

I have never regretted having my kids, I regret some of my parenting choices and would go back and change those, but I wouldn’t take back having kids.

Nope. Never had one thought of regret for my kiddos. It's not easy and my kids love to test me but I love being a mom. Watching them grow, seeing how they tackle new things; it is amazing.

Well, people can and do feel pressured to have children because it's what's expected, but as a whole, I don't know that people regret having kids so much as they weren't prepared for just how hard it is. People tell you it's going to be hard, but you really don't get HOW hard it is before you do it, especially if you have high needs children or lack a good support system. Parenting can also really bring to surface a lot of issues from your own childhood that you didn't even realize were a problem. I think it also really forces you to look in the mirror and address a lot of your own flaws and that's obviously difficult. Having children is hard for obvious reasons, but also because parenthood pushes you to be better as a person and unfortunately not everyone is receptive to change. You and your kids are learning how to do life together and while it is absolutely exhausting and sometimes you want to throw a temper tantrum yourself, the love you feel for your children is... indescribable. Even on the worst days, you can't imagine life without them. I have had days where I thought "I'm no good at this. I shouldn't have been a mom. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm going to screw him up." But never "I wish he was never born." Kids definitely aren't for everyone and that's totally fine, but don't let the fact that its hard make you think it's not worth it.

We are in our 40s and 50s. My mother always says she wishes she had skipped us and just had the grand kids. My middle brother’s kids especially the oldest is the perfection of a child…..I know she regrets having my oldest brother. The nicest way of putting it he was born an asshole. Unappreciative. Ungrateful. Selfish. Self centered. Narcissistic. Controlling. Manipulative. Refuses to bathe or wear deodorant, stinks like hell. Deadbeat dad, brother son etc. refuses to work. Bipolar. Schizophrenic, passive aggressive. Obsessive compulsive. Germaphobe. Everything to an extreme. Yet she feels guilty kicking him out. 50 years old. Just stays in bed all day and plays video games. Won’t take medication. Every therapist or pastor is wrong. He’s just an asshole.

I’ll never regret my children. I will say if I could go back and tell my 20yo self that trying for a baby was not the right move at the time I would. That being said I’m 29 and about to have my 5th. Always said I’m down by 30, so this is our last. I’m grateful to have grown with my first 2 they had the younger more immature version of me but financially I wish I would have finished school and worked on my career instead of having to take the slow route and do school while raising all the kids. I love my kids but sometimes I get jealous of my kidless friends who get to go on vacations, parties etc. do I believe those friends are missing out? 100% I wouldn’t trade my kids for experiences but it still would be nice to have me time. I get 0 time alone. Not even in the shower.

No, I would still have them just probably later in life. 
But parenting is HARD, and it’s okay to feel those feelings.
