Really confused… Why is he being like that?

My ex broke up with me. I’ve tried to talk to him about everything since i felt like he wasn’t giving me a solid explanation of why he ended it. He basically brushed me off and kept saying open ended things. Then we talked a little last night before he made a comment about how he feels like I don’t listen to what he says and then when I tried to talk about it he ignored it. So I left it alone and then just asked if everything was okay next day. He said yeah so I just didn’t answer. He texted me again after an hour and was like “yeah I guess I just wasn’t trying to talk the whole night I guess idk I wasn’t trying to offend you. But I’m here for you and want to help you (I’ve been having family issues)”. I said “oh? Well I thought you wanted to talk (seeing as HE reached out to ME first???) but okay I guess. Have a good day I’ll talk to you later”. He responded and was how he was just playing video games and forgot to answer.

I didnt bother answering - he texted me again 3 hours later and asked if everything was okay. When we were dating, he always did that when he was concerned about me not talking to him for a while. But like. You JUST told me you don’t wanna talk all day? So why do you care if I answer you at all? Let alone in a couple hours?
