Am I wrong for not wanting my son to be apart of something that is controversial

I really am not trying to start any controversy. This is strictly about this even so plz keep the comments strictly about this event. I'm not wanting to get into the Israel Palestine debate.

My son is 14 and there is an event he wants to do. It's a bike riding event to raise money to help the children in Gaza. He wants to do it and I get wanting to help children. Regardless of what's going on in the world, children don't deserve to die. However, I don't want him to do events that are controversial. Helping children should never be controversial but the situation is. I just don't want hate towards my CHILD when all he's trying to do is do something good. His dad thinks it's fine and he's not the only one raising money to help children in Gaza. I said I know but I'm pretty sure Ms. Rachel got bullied for that. I just don't want my minor child in controversy.
