Blighted ovum? Or too early?

Asking for a friend… she went in for her 8-week appt today and the sonographer said she couldn’t see anything.
 Things to note: it was an external sono bc she refused the internal one for personal reasons. 
She hasn’t had any symptoms. Her tests are getting darker. Anyone with experience?

I had dark tests and even a dye stealer. Went in at around 6 weeks then a week later and another week later and blighted ovum. It took another few weeks for my levels to drop and my body to catch up and start bleeding. It was one of the worst I had been through and I have also had a 3 month loss that ended in an emergency d &c. If this becomes the case for her, she will need some support for sure. It is very rough.

If she was 8 weeks, they would definitely have seen something. I agree with the other person who responded, she very well could have ovulated later than she thought; this happened to me with my daughter and they had to do an internal scan to see as it turned out I was only 6 weeks.

There should be a sac by 8w mark, as well as a heart beat. Maybe her ovulation is off and she’s a few weeks earlier than she thought?

At 6 weeks they did an abdominal ultrasound and we could see heartbeat she might be earlier if she is a transvaginal would be more accurate

Thought I was 7w3d when I went to my first appt. Scan showed absolutely nothing except a cyst on each ovary. A week later scan showed a gestational sac and Dr said I was maybe 5W. A week later went to a private scan today and sac looks bigger and im scheduled to return to my dr next week. 
First visit hCG was 20,928. 
Second visit hCG was 44,498.

I had an early scan due to pains, found out I was 7 weeks and saw baby and heard heartbeat, turns out I had cysts hence the pain. You should deffo be able to see something at 8 weeks.

It’s a possibility she ovulated late. At 6 weeks  I can see the fetus/sac via abdominal ultrasound.

They should be able to see something by then vaginal or not, however they should tell her to come back in a week for another scan in case she ovulated later than she thought. I had a blighted ovum at 8w, no symptoms, no bleeding spotting cramps, line progression and even a rising HCG. Went back a week later and still nothing and the sac started to shrink by then.

this was my 8w abdominal ultrasound with my second baby, if she was actually that far along they would definitely have seen something.
