I cut my boys hair, mistake or no?

I’ve never cut his hair save for when he was a toddler and I tried cutting the bang area so he didn’t have hair in his eyes but that was short lived and it grows so fast and I didn’t really know what I was doing. Fast forward to now he’s almost 6. I loved his long hair and would put it up Viking style when we had time but it just became too much, on top of everyone thinking he was a girl 🙄 so we talked and he was unsure about cutting it cause it’s what he’s used to and I guess the thought of change scared him but he hated the daily brushing/putting it up/or constantly having to move it out of his face so I sucked up any doubt and just did it. I wanted to do a tapered look (faded?) but he’d lost his patience after I went over it with the first setting length, I was able to get a little of the back and sides with a closer cut but at that time he was over it. Does this look ok?
