The best way to tell the difference between a pimple and a cold sore is how long they last. They can look so similar, so sometimes that is the only way to tell. If it starts to heal within a couple of days, it's likely just a pimple. If it takes longer than a week to heal, it's probably a cold sore. ￼￼￼
