My father says if I love him I won't let my son perform

I have 4 kids. Two biological. Two adopted. One of my adopted kids is almost 17 and he wrote a poem for a poetry contest. He got 2nd place and prize money but the person in first place gets to perform their poem at a theater festival the community college puts on. The person who won first place didn't want to do they went to second place.

His poem is about a traumatic even that happened when he was 14 in foster care. In involved 4 police officers and I won't say details because it's not really important and it's triggering but it was a horrible traumatic thing that happened and he put that into a poem.

My dad is a cop and he has read the poem and he feels the poem is very anti police and he doesn't like it. I don't thinks it's "anti police". It's saying what happened and how he felt at 14. My dad does not want him to perform it because he feels like it will perpetrate that you can't trust the police and will spread more anti police narrative. My son wants to perform it. I'm not going to stop him. Then my dad pulled the if you love me you will put your foot down. Both my parents pull that if you love me you will do xy and z nonsense and I hate it.

Now we are fighting and my dad is mad at me and I'm annoyed
