Is it ever painful to have a bowel movement when on your period?

It is for me, like the act of pushing hurts... and I'm not even straining.  Sometimes it hurts so bad I have to hold it.

Ps. Yes I have went to the Dr for this. Everything is normal, and just irritated and sensitive during period.

It really does sound like endometriosis and 9/10 it can take women up to 6 years to be diagnosed with it, it's one of the misdiagnosed illness/problems of all time, because there's no physical evidence/symptom until you have keyhole surgery, as 9/10 the growths don't show on ultrasounds.

I have endo, it took them 4 years to finally diagnose me with it, i kept getting fobbed off saying 'it's normal' I new it wasn't normal and kept pushing and pushing till I had a diagnosis, 
My symptoms were :
• heavy menstruals
• irregular cycles
• extreme pain 3 days befor AF showed up that worsened until 2 days of finishing AF
• pain when having intercourse
•pain when passing a bowel movement when on AF
• severe abdominal cramps

If you believe something is wrong then push for a diagnosis. Don't give up!

Sounds like endometriosis , I have it .  They couldn't find in on a ultrasound or anything until I got a laparoscopy done

I have been going through this for years and finally was diagnosed but it took a while. Mine was a crazy sharp/stabbing either randomly or when I was pooping, and it almost felt like a combined cramp. it's hard to explain but the pain is so bad I end up in tears and not able to move. My doctor finally told me about Proctalgia Fugax and I looked it up. It's more common than you think and sucks!

But, there is always a concern that this may be a symptom of endometriosis also. I also have been cleared for that, thankfully!
