Help explain my ovulation cycle please!

So this is the fam method I have been following - 4 days of period; next week safe for sex; following week - unsafe; and the third week - sex again. And then period starts soon. This has worked so far as I belief the unsafe week is when I ovulate. But all these apps show the first week I am fertile. How does my method work then?? :/ confused.
