*SLIGHTLY URGENT*Problems with Mirena?

Question

I just got my mirena iud last Thursday and I was hoping it would be a solution to my heavy periods I was having...I am on Xarelto for a pulmonary embolism so I expected the bleeding to be heavy but I have been going through a extra strength overnight pad every two hours...Is this a common issue with the IUD? Is there anything I can do? I have been trying to contact my doctor's office for a few hours now.

Update: my doctor's office said its only really a problem if I'm changing every hour...but to me it just doesn't seem normal that I would bleed so much.

I bet it's a combination of recently having it put in, and the xarelto. I wouldn't go to the ER over it, but if it worries you even after the doc says it's fine, you could go to urgent care. They'll be cheaper than the ER, and probably get you in faster due to reduced patient load, and you're likely to get more personal care. Whereas the ER is for absolute emergencies and they aren't there to help you treat/diagnose an underlying issue. They are there to triage, and rush you back out the door with a temporary quick fix while telling you to follow up with your doctor. An urgent care is more likely to spend a little extra time with you because they've got simpler issues coming through the door, and it's not super urgent that they get people out of their beds in case some serious trauma comes through the door.

I had to get mine removed for heavy heavy bleeding. It also punctured my uterus. Please see a doc asap.

The xarelto caused such heavy bleeding I almost went to the er too. I am not familiar with that birth control but my period on xarelto was similar to your. I was doing a tampon and a pad just to get through the day.  It was extremely heavy and passing clots all the time. The doctors said it was the blood thinner.

Yikes. How long will you have to be on xarelto for? I'm sure it's a combo of the two. If it doesn't let up or you become symptomatic I'd go to urgent care or ER.

I would be worried too. I know mirena is incredibly different for everyone - I didn't bleed at all, ever, after having it put in. Now when I got it taken out... That's a different story 😉. Needing to change a heavy flow pad every 2 hours would concern me though. Hopefully you can get it sorted out! Mirena was my favorite!

I HATED the mirena! I did bleed the first month with it but I don't remember how heavy the flow was but I don't think it was that heavy.
