Day after pill affecting cycle?

My boyfriend and I had a couple of accidents in the past month and a half. The condom broke and I had to take the day after pill. Unfortunately for us the first two times it happened within the same week. I know the pill does irregular your cycle so I wasn't surprised when I got my period again within a two weeks from my last period. It happened again last week and again I had to take the pill. For the last two days I've been spotting and today I'm at "full flow." I am trying to get on birth control btw I'm just waiting for my appointment with my gynecologist. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and I'm also assuming it may not be healthy to take so many pills so close together. We've opted to just be safe and not risk it anymore until I get back on birth control.
