MISSED PERIOD

Hello ladies I am five days past my missed period, I dont want to jump to conclusions and thinking im pregnant so I haven't taken a pregnancy test. I have been getting extreme menstrual pains on and off for a couple of days, but AF still hasn't came. How long should I wait before I take a pregnancy test? An would you have any idea why im getting these pains? ANYWAYS thank you for your time, have a great day ladies!
