I'm sick so forgive me if my response is a mess. I have so many mixed feeling about this case. The way I feel about this particular case is, Lexy's relatives should have been given the chance at having custody of her in the first place since they obviously were eligible to care for her. It's sad that she went through some negative experiences in the system and when she finally found a good home, then they choose to uproot her. The system is broken. I'm sorry that Lexy has obviously undergone some traumatic experiences. I also realize there is a very real epidemic going on of Native American children being removed from the home when there is little evidence the children should be taken. Some states get more money for placing Native Children in foster care. As for Lexy being 1/64, that is not the issue. There is no blood Quantim requirement for citizenship in the Choctaw Nation. Having even that tiny amount still gives Lexy the right to be a member of her tribe. These laws are in place due to Native children being adopted out to white families to try to "assimilate" them in the not so distant past. Adoption and sterilization are some of the techniques that have been used to wipe out NA culture.

I think it's inhumane and AWFUL to rip that child away from her loving FAMILY. Yes. They are her FAMILY. They had her and raised her for 4 years & now she's being taken from them. Poor baby. Ignorant!!!

I couldn't even finish reading that. What a load of bullshit. She loses one family and now she's lost a second, and by all accounts loving, dedicated family. What an absolutely rotten thing to do to a child!

I heard a brief bit on tv. While I understand the *concern* of white adoptive parents not teaching children of color the world of their heritage (this isn't the rule but it's very common) I hate this situation. She's 1/64th and her dad had no ties to the culture, first of all. They fought for her to be "with her Native American/Choctaw family" however her biological parents have substance abuse problems and felony records. Her own family, her own creators, weren't fulfilling their family duties. This foster home clearly loved her and was/IS her family. Family does not always mean blood. This child has been with them for four years. This is so heart wrenching and unfair. & I mean no offense to parents on here who have have survived substance abuse problems while being a parent, but I can't word it any better at 1:30am with an infant on my boob.

What are your opinions on this issue? I think she should've been left to her foster parents. This is so sad.
