I have PCOS and had very irregular periods. Birth control wasn’t a good option as I stopped getting periods completely while still on it years ago. Plus we are TTC so BC isn’t a good choice at this point. My Dr and I decided to try Metformin until my husband and I can get in to see a fertility Dr. I started Metformin and 3 days later had a very heavy period that was not characteristic of me. I am on my 2nd month of being on it and just got my 2nd period in a row (which is very rare for me) so it seems to be regulating me. I haven’t had blood tests or ultrasounds since I started so I am unsure how it’s affecting my LH/FSH (which were the main culprits of my irregularities and lack of ovulation. I haven’t had any side effects from it at all.
I'm 24 and I have Pcos, I've been taking it for 3 years no bad side effects. also helped me loose some weight but it was also with walking so. Fertility, I've only been trying for 3 months to have a child so Idk yet.
have been taking metformin 500mg for almost 2months. it makes me sick to my stomach, frequently going bathroom back hurts, pain all over, can't lay on my stomach it makes me think I am pregnant to be honest and I lose and gain weight so am guessing it's not working out for me.
Haven’t got pregnant in 17 years start it for my sugar levels and then I was pregnant doctor said it was the meds lost the baby tho 2 mths in but I’m trying again

My cysts were reduced after 6 weeks of being on Metformin! I’m currently on 1500mg/day.
my doc put me on metformin, because u couldnt conceive. My husband and I have been trying for 3 years in our marriage. after she prescribes metformin, and took it for 6 months, ang with prenatal vitamin, I was able to conceive with very first daughter. This really work! my SIL was put on it for 3 months, she conceived with her daughter too.. it takes time for miracle to happen. you just have to put effort for it to lose weight..

my doctor has me on 1500 mg a day she just put me on that today so lets see if this helps any
It made my stomach so upset. I was nauseas and had the poops like always. I tried for weeks to push through it but I started having terrible stomach cramps so where I had to leave work early one day. (I've called out 3 times in 5 years). I was also so tired the whole time I was on it and very irritable. In the 5-6 weeks I took it, I had no change in my weight or cycle.
I had a terrible reaction the first day on it. Every muscle in my body was sore. And it only got worse on day 2. I called my doctor, and she called me back immediately, and personally, to tell me to discontinue taking it immediately. Apparently, I'm one of the rare people that reacts this way. It's called lactic acidosis, and it can adversely effect every muscle in your body. This includes your most important muscle, your heart. I have PCOS, as well as fibroids and endometriosis so it was disappointing to me to have this reaction.
So far taking it I've gotten two consecutive periods! Which is a huge win cause they're normally over 100 days apart!
Yes. I haven't lost any weight, but I have only been on it for 5 months. I am not diabetic but was diagnosed with pcos bc I am overweight and irregular

It took a few months increase my dose to 3 times a day but once I did I started having regular periods!!! After only having 1 period a month for a few years I was ecstatic. It also helped me lose weight
Effective for me, once they figured out that I was like a PCOsS pt even though my glucose test was normal. Metformin helped my body respond better to the successful cycle.
It was ok. You have to build up your tolerance to it. It did make my stomach quizy at times.
Since was doing IUIand prediabetic, was recommended with metformin. No side effects except helping me to keep my sugar level in control
I am on metformin extended release 750mg 3x nightly... It has helped my levels but I haven't physically noticed a change it did not restart my period and I did not get pregnant from it, but also I haven't had any bad side effects from it.

At beginning was tough and didn't feel well. But after a couple week it was fine

I used metformin for about a month and got pregnant but had a chemical pregnancy. I was able to conceive and have a 3yr old. I am TTC and began to try Berberine this time. From what I read it is similar to metformin and has many benefits. I received a VFL the other day, so fingers crossed. If I receive my BFP, I think it's the Berberine:-)
I did not lose weight .. and it made a lot of my hair fall out idk why !? Very upsetting and scary

It has helped me ovulate more regularly and shorter period cycles but it is awful for my acid r flux GERD. And it causes some digestive issues. I take 500mg twice daily
my Gyn wanted me to take it to help with my PCOS and high free insulin levels to attempt to help me not become diabetic. however, I have severe reactive hypoglycemia bc of my PCOS and taking this as 500mg once daily causes my sugar to drop too low and get close to blackingout. this said, it works for my diabetic husband as well as others but it's ultimately up to you and your Dr. to discuss the pros and cons.
You need to make sure you take this on a full stomach, or with a meal to prevent nausea. otherwise this has helped regulate my irregular period. I've lost a bit of weight. it seems to be working. It requires a prescription. We're not actively trying to conceive, but I imagine it will help to manage the PCOS long before we start trying.
my doctor put me on metformin a couple months ago not cuz of pcos or diabetic but because my periods were so irregular that i wouldn't have them for months so wasn't ovulating. finally at end of 2nd month i got s period that lasted 2 weeks! now to see if i ovulate and get any news. been trying for 2 years now.

I've been taking Metformin for two months now. It has done an amazing job of regulating my cycle. My doctor told me from the beginning that diet will play a huge role in how you feel while taking it. I didn't watch what I was eating over the holidays and I felt really awful. Now my diet is a lot more controlled and clean (and I'm taking one in the morning and two before bed), and I feel a lot better.
Constant watery bowel movements, but cycle is regular and ovulating per opks.

I've hear did a brand called, Vitex that got many of my friends pregnant after a few months who have been suffering to conceive & with PCOS for years!
Just not the medicine for me. It did not ever regulate my cycle, and I never ovulated while I took it. Made me sick every single day. Nauseated and in and out of the bathroom all day. I'm happy it works for some but for me, Metformin did nothing but make me miserable for several months.
I've only taken it for a few weeks. I don't have PCOS but my Dr. thought it would help me ovulate. I've never known when I've ovulated until now. so I believe it works. I will give it more time.
I take metformin for my sugar levels it makes my stomach bubbly but I guess my stomach getting used to it...

I haven't started yet.... but I was wondering. - Can you start the medication before your period starts? - can you drink alcohol while using this medication? - how long did you have your nausea symptoms?
I have had two successful pregnancies after taking metformin for 5-6 months. I have not been diagnosed with PCOS but began taking it because my doctor thought I was not ovulating. The main side effect I experienced both times was a 20+ pound weight gain and nausea. I felt hungry all the time while on metformin, if I did not eat something every two hours I would become very nauseated. But since it works so well for me a little discomfort is worth the end result of having a healthy pregnancy. :)
I was put on this drug to help my sugar levels. Gives me the bubble guts after I take it ... but it does help with weight loss and I believe infertility
I've been on metformin for about 7 months now , I've been taking it twice daily and she up dosed it for 3 times daily now . I have pcos and I stopped taking it for 2 weeks and I got my period nov 30 last for a week and I ovulated and now I'm waiting to see if we get pregnant.. when starting to take this medicine you'll have diarrhea and you feel weird , your body just has to get use to it .. but let's see if it helps . Praying that it does ..
I've been on it for 5 years...no pregnancies, some weight gain, mild upset stomach, glucose levels are much better. I have PCOS.

This stuff totally upsets your stomach for like the first month, but after that those symptoms improved. Been on it a few months, not pregnant yet but I've lost 23 lbs and my body seems to be showing signs of actually ovulating now so I'd recommend it.
I have only been on it for 2 wks. I have had nausea and diarrhea some. but am losing weight nicely and hoping for good results with period regularity and pregnancy.
After over a year of having cycles that ranged from 13 to 45 days with spotting nearly every other day due to coming off of depo shot, I was put on metformin and the very next cycle was a perfect 28 day cycle. It does give my diarrhea, hence the missing 5th star, but that may be a cause for weight loss so I shouldn't be too upset!
I'm very nauseated and have diarrhea, and I believe it throws off ovulation readings.
not so sure how it's working for my hormones but I'm guessing good because my cycles are now every 25-30 days. I get nausea and a couple times a week get diarrhea but worth it if ttc and stay healthy. also gave lost almost 20 pounds on this pill and dieting and excersize. I'm also a vegetarian now.

A huge improvement after starting Metformin. My glucose levels are down. Seems to be the only drug that works for me.

After having had 2 miscarriages, this drug helped me maintain my pregnancy. I think if you have PCOS, it is a must. Ask your doctor about it.
