Birth control and college

So next month I will be leaving for my first year at college. I only had one boyfriend in high school but nothing serious. My mother wants to take me to get birth control before I leave but I don't think it's very necessary since I don't plan on dating or having sex ny first year.I guess what I'm asking is if anyone else thinks it's a good idea to get BC even if I'm not dating or having sex, as a precaution?
