Quick PSA before you register for/purchase your pump!
After seeing some other new moms-to-be sharing some of the same anxiety as me, I wanted to share my super quick, uneventful "How I Got My pump" story.
breastpumps are medical equipment that are covered under the ACA. You should NOT have to spend money out of your pocket to buy one.
I have been telling every mom-to-be I know to check with Aeroflow or McKesson before they buy or register for a pump. With Aeroflow, I didn't even have to call my doctor. They did it all for me. When I was about 28 weeks along, I went to their website, put in my insurance info, and they contacted my doctor for me to get the RX. I receieved an email from them within a few days with a link to pick my pump, then paid for the upgrade with my HSA. The pump showed up at my doorstep within 1 week.
I got my Medela freestyle for $145 (no tax). The In Style (along with a few other pumps) was free, but I wanted the flexibility of not having to plug it in.
A family member, who has the EXACT same insurance, went through the insurance company itself, had to get the prescription herself, and provide a birth certificate, so she couldn't even start the process until after the baby was born. I wanted to share this because I was shocked at how easy (and cheap) it was to get this off my checklist of things to do. It took an enormous burden off my shoulders.
Hopefully my experience will help out one of you ☺️👶🏼💚
Edit: Most hospitals that I am aware of also let you keep the pumping accessories if you use theirs during your stay. Add it to the list of freebies to stuff in your bag!
