Do you always need to have a lip tie revised?

Question

I pretty sure my baby boy has a lip tie, but he nurses really well, he is gaining weight just fine, and I'm not having any nipple soreness.

I've heard that it can cause problems later on... but I hadn't even heard of lip ties before this year. I just don't know what's true and what's not.

I would prefer not to put him through a procedure if it's not necessary. Has anyone opted not to revise a lip tie?

Both my children have it they are 16 months and 3 months old - my 16 month old had her first dentist appointment a few weeks ago and Dr. said they aren't worried.. her teeth look great and she eats fine. Concerns would be build up plaque around the gums and trouble eating/drinking. She stated most toddlers rip it because they play so tough falling all the time and what not but if it hasn't ripped by age 4-6 they will cut, most of the time it will get in the way of teeth developing and leave a gap in the front teeth so they end up cutting. My 3 month old eats fine and gains weight so no concerns for her yet either. 😑🙃

My dad had a tongue tie when he was a baby; my gramgram said he nursed perfectly and gained weight but it became a problem when he was about 2-3 because they realized he couldn't lick his lips. But she said it bothered her more than it did my dad so they clipped it.
