GENDER IDENTITY: What does trans* mean?

Trans* is an umbrella term including a range of identities that transgress gender norms. The asterisk (written only, not spoken) indicates that you are referring to all non-binary identities, including transgender men (transmen) and transgender women (trans women).

A trans person is someone who lives as a member of a gender other than what they were assigned at birth. Trans people can be straight, gay, bisexual, queer, or any other sexual orientation.

there should be a space between "trans" and "man/men" just like between "trans" and "woman/women." "transmen" is generally speaking, not how we prefer to be referred to, and as far as I'm aware the same goes for trans women, because it's unnecessarily othering. it's like we're a totally different breed of human, somehow separate from other men, so much so that you had to make a separate noun for us. "trans" should always and only be used as an adjective. never as a noun or even part of a noun. "trans" is an adjective for describing "man" or "woman" because we ARE men and women, first and foremost. there's no need to change and mash together words.

Transmen and transwomen can have binary identities. Just as people who are non-binary  (like myself) don't always take on the trans* label as including them.

I know Eve doesn’t do everything right when speaking out about the LGBT+ community but I’m glad it at least STARTS the conversation and I like to read about how what other people define trans is to them.
