how much IUD insertion hurts is impacted by where you are in your cycle

I got my second mirena in yesterday, after taking a few months between them to try the pill again.  And it hurt BAD, and now, a day and a half later, it still hurts.  I have been treating the pain and taking it very easy and it is getting better continuously but damn was this different from getting my first one in!! Like x25 the pain.  When I called in to be like "what. The fuck.", the doctor's nurse said that the amount of pain also depends on where you are at in your cycle.
