Are kids born as blank slates?

Some people think that personality is innate. Others think that kids are more like blank states that we can shape. What are your thoughts?

No, because neurological functioning affects personality, as well as sounds and brain activity while in the stomach. There's definitely a lot of molding to be done, but it's not a complete blank slate imo.

Nature VS nurture. I think parents can influence a lot in how a child will turn out but also a child is born with their own personality and characteristics that also determine m how they will turn out. So I I don't think babies are a blank slate. The best example of this are identical twins that grow up in the same environment with different personalities.

Currently reading this book which literally goes through everything about a child's brain and development... from morals to language to personality and what is genetic and what is nurture. I HIGHLY recommend it. It was 10$ on amazon and I LOVE it. It's written by a genetic scientist but it's an easy read.

Personality itself is innate. How we show our personality is environmental and completely based on what behaviors have been punished and what behaviors have been reinforced. This is how all behaviors work.

It's a combination in my opinion, and in the reading I've done. Nurturing is fairly important between 0-2. I firmly believe we have between ages 2-7 to positively promote healthy behavior and objectives. Around 7-9 you can see the identity emerge. 10+ is support and sometimes maintenance. I don't think there's necessarily a blank slate. Yet I do believe in their innocence. Siblings, friends and culture definitely have a influence. That's why I think it's super important we learn "who they are", instead of what parents sometimes project on children.

I'm like 50/50 on this, just because I haven't even gave birth yet and my baby is already rowdy and has attitude, just from the womb. But a lot of kids do copy and learn as they grow, and that also shapes their personality a lot
