Easton is here!
It's time to share my birth story! My apologies that this is long!
On Monday, September 18th, I went in for 39 week and 4 day appointment. Up until this point, I still had not dilated but my cervix was soft. I have not had any high blood pressure at all during the pregnancy but on that day, my blood pressure was a little high. Unfortunately, I was still not dilated at all! My doctor said we probably should have the baby in the next few days. After checking with Labor & Delivery, he wanted me to come in the next night (Tuesday, September 19th) to start receiving a cytotec pill on my cervix to help me soften and dilate. Then, on Wednesday morning we would start pitocin.
He let us know that my pelvis is not very wide and that sometimes with first time inductions there is an increased risk for a csection.
The next night my husband and I checked in to L & D and I received my first cytotec pill about 11 pm. This definitely got some things going because I dilated to a 1 and I started having regular contractions. They tried to give me something to help me sleep but I was too anxious. Then I received another pill around 4. By the time the doctor came to see me I was dilated to a 2 1/2 and 70%. When the doctor came in at 7, he was so pleased with my progress that I didn't even need pitocin!! He broke my water and said I could have an epidural. He was going to assist with a surgery and said for me to hold tight till he got back.
The CRNA came to give me my epidural and my doctor put in internal monitoring for baby to get a better heart rate. After the epidural took effect is when things quickly turned!
All of a sudden 5 nurses came rushing in and had me switching from one side to another to my back. Another pulled oxygen out and put on me. Apparently my blood pressure dropped from the epidural which of course made baby's heart rate drop. They first call was to CRNA where they gave me some medicine that helped temporarily. After that, baby was handling my small contractions well but was struggling after my stronger contractions.
They pulled my doctor out of surgery and he sat down and had a very honest conversation with us. He didn't like what he was saying with baby's heart rate. Our goal is to have healthy mom and baby and he didn't want to see me labor all day (and worry!) and then still possibly need a csection! I told him I trusted him and his recommendation and if he thought csection was best then that is what we would do. My Husband and I were scared but I can't say enough about how wonderful my husband was at keeping me as calm as he could! I don't know what I would have done without him.
After we made the decision, they had me in the OR and my precious baby boy was here about 30 minutes later at 9:08 am on September 20, 2017! Just one day shy of 40 weeks!
As is turns out, his cord was wrapped around his neck! We even had an ultrasound on Monday before we was born and it wasn't so it changed in a matter of one day. This is definitely not the story I thought I would share but he is here and he is perfect which is all we can ask for!!!
Here is my precious baby boy...
