What would happen if we just quit working...

...for poverty wages? I'm not sure if we'd die of starvation, get evicted, or what, but sometimes I wonder about a world where we build up our local economies again from scratch and leave the big corporations out of it. Could we do any better collectively than we do now or are we stuck settling for minimum-/low-wage jobs while the CEOs and execs float off into the sunset on their golden parachutes?

They'd find new people to replace us and then we'd be even worse off. It's a nice thought but I'd rather have some e try money to help pay bills then one at all.

I wonder the same thing. I get paid a servers minimum wage (9.50/hr) and they expect I'll get tips to make up for it. But not many people tip well at a family wing and take out place, or at all. Its a struggle to make ends meet. And why? If we all decided to not go into work can you imagine the impact?

I think we would be fine. I grow/raise a lot all my own food and trade with my neighbors. I try to reuse everything  (within reason), and help my neighbors out.

Sure I have the land to do this, but you don't need much to start a garden. It actually works better in containers anyway. One slaughtered cow can feed 5 or 6 families for a month depending on its give. Then we have all the small livestock like chickens or rabbits. So food isn't a issue. The products we need are the hard part to figure out. Sure, you can make things out of wood and we could start cotton back up, but people are going to have to realize stuff will take much more consideration. For example, you could make a tampon but its not going to last as long if it doesn't come from someone who knows how to clean and braid it properly. Enter the people trying to make more money for a easier, less time consuming life, and thus dont share those secrets -this eventually leads to specialized industry. We have to learn to share. Little crap like this. Then again if we could just keep companies IN OUR OWN COUNTRY... we wouldn't have to worry about it as much.
