Need help.....
Pretty sure I’m suffering from depression but I don’t know how to get help.
Has anyone else ever experienced the struggle of feeling like you have to hide your mental illness because of the stigma around it?
My family is very old fashioned. If you’re depressed, you’re just upset and it’s something you just have to ignore until you somehow manage to push through it. If you have any kind of mental illness at all you’re labeled as crazy. Admitting you need help means you’re weak. And medication is unnecessary, a crutch, and doesn’t really change a thing. These are the ideas the I grew up around.
And now I’m at a point in my life where my depression is at an all time high, and I’ve been dealing with a little bit of anxiety as well, and I know I need help. It’s really affecting so many aspects of my life, and I feel like the only hope I have in regaining control over my life is getting help. Either therapy or medication, really just whatever my insurance will cover, I just need something to help pull me through this. I just don’t know how to reach out and get the help and support I need without being judged.
