going to the gynecologist for the first time

so i’m 16 and ive never been to the gynecologist. i think i have some kind of infection because i’ve been getting a bad odor from down there and it’s itchy so it’s very bothersome. my mom made me an appointment for the gynecologist but i’m nervous. are they going to look at me down there?? i ask this bc i’ve heard sometimes they don’t. and if they do should i shave?? idk i feel kind of embarrassed bc nobody has ever looked at me down there and plus the fact that is smells bad is gonna be embarrassing. and i’m supposed to get my period soon so what do i do if it comes? should i reschedule or still go?
