Mommies in College?

Mommy friends
I’m going back to school! Going to take my basics and then start my journey as an RN. My end goal is to become a CNM! I am super excited, wondering if anyone has gone back to school with kids, i’m nervous about it! I have 2 kids, one is almost 3 and the other is a month old tomorrow! Thank you!
Any encouragement is appreciated!
I haven’t decided what I should do as far as being part time or full time. I was going to to part time, but it will take FOREVER to get my degree lol. 
Any mommas go full time? 
My husband can help at night and watch the kids

I go full time. I am a single mom, 14-17 credits per semester, work part-time and I have a 6 year old. My weeks can easily be 70 hours when adding in studying. 
Having a great support group (nanny, pre-school, maid (me 😂), family and friends) to help with the kids is a must! It is nice to have someone to care for the kids when you need to study. Also have a backup just in case the sitter flakes! Letting your teacher know you have kids is helpful too but conserve your sick days until absolutely necessary. 
Your scheduling has to be impeccable because something as small as not emptying the dishwasher, prepping food, laying cloths or getting gas can throw your flow off for an entire week. Make sure you schedule sleep too because you need all your brainpower. Don’t sacrifice your sleep even for test cramming because if you are tired and hopped up on coffee the test will seem even harder. I go to bed on time and wake up a bit earlier or have the sitter come earlier so I can study. 
Do not wait until the last minute to do anything!!!
I find it helpful to make a “house rules”, map and schedule to post on the fridge so no one is left in the dark about what to do and my location on campus. 
Buy a printer if you do not have one.
I suggest taking a couple of online classes alongside the in person ones if your school offers them. It takes a second to get use to the format but it will allow you to see your family because they have to get use to the change as well.
Also never underestimate the power of the internet and the school’s library database because there are tons of websites and YouTube videos on every topic. The pace of the lecture tends to go to fast for discussion or explanation so connecting with other students is a must. Getting a few of your classmates info is also helpful if you are running late. They can tell the teacher and take a photo of their notes.

I did! I’m not sure with your specific program, but a lot of schools offer online courses. I’d take as many of those as you can, I’m assuming the prerequisites without labs will be offered online. Also, some with labs might even be part online and part in class. In addition, consider CLEP exams. For some GE courses, you can test out of the class and just get the 3 credits if you pass the one exam. It is also only like $200 total per exam. Also, take accelerated summer and winter term courses. I had twins my sophomore year of college and graduated on time because I did all of the things I mentioned above. Good luck!

I've been in school since my daughter was 3 or 4 months old. she is 2 yrs old now. I'm only half way done but I'm also going to school to be an RN. I start actual nursing classes next year (I had a terrible advisor the first 2 years so I'm bummed I took unnecessary courses and could be almost done now. but on the plus side it means getting a bachelors in it will be quicker). I took online up until this semester because science is an in person requirement as is the nursing program itself. Luckily we have our daughter in day care now to make that possible, because I cant take her with me 😂. The best advice I can give is, study hard. It wont be easy but it will be worth it! late nights and sleepless nights will be involved but that grade is everything and when you see it, it's such a proud little victory. Stay patient and focused. Get tutoring for things you dont understand. Ask for help when you need it, whether it be help with the family or academics.

I went back to school in January, doing a hybrid (mainly online) program. Currently working FT, have a 2.5 year old and #2 on the way. It's tough, but I know in the end it will all be worth it 😊

I started college full time when my daughter was 1 and it was exhausting but amazing. The hardest part was coming home and not being able to focus on my work so I’d stay up literally ALL night to get things done. I had no idea how much work full time was. By 9 months I was completely worn out and then I found out I was pregnant so I took a break - but it’s definitely something I plan on going back and finishing. My biggest tips are to find someone willing to watch them for longer than just your classes so that you can have time to work in peace. Be as open with your professors as possible so they understand what your life is like, that helped me a lot. Start out small and see what you can handle!

I'm currently pregnant and in college! Yas mom you get that education!!

I personally would start part time at least for a semester or two, see how I handle it, then transition into full time when I'm ready.
I have a bad habit of taking a bunch of classes and I'm nervous to see how I'm going to do it with a little one,
(Finals are in 2 weeks and my due date is in 3, I am freaking out.)
Also like someone mentioned try hybrid(both online and classroom) or online too!

Maybe start part time and add more if you can handle it? And remember, as long as you master the knowledge you need in your actual career, all you need to do is pass your classes. No one checks GPAs anymore, I busted my a&$ to get straight As for both my degrees and no one has ever mentioned it in interviews. 😤

Online classes are so great by the way!! Having to be at a campus at a certain time on certain days is soooo hard and stressful!! Online is so much more flexible plus you can be more time efficient and do the assignments as you read or listen to lectures instead of having to sit and take. It’s and then go home and work!
