so my best friend is absolutely stunning. and i’m not that pretty. she is constantly talking about how perfect her body is, how pretty she is, how this guy and that guy wants her, but my body is NOT perfect, i’m not pretty, and nobody wants me. and she knows that and sometimes i’ll be depressed ash and she will literally only text me to ask which post to post on insta. i don’t wanna be around someone who makes me feel bad abt myself. but i don’t wanna loose the only person i have. help?

I was in the same place in high school. I ended up feeling really jealous of my best friend but she was the only one I had. She was pretty, very social, was getting her first date/kiss/etc and I got zero attention from guys. I ended up slowly trying to make new friends (I literally just started asking people that I sort of knew if they would want to go get coffee, go to the mall, whatever) and I distanced myself little by little from my friend. I figured I wasn’t being much of a friend to her if I couldn’t support her as a person because of my bitterness and didn’t think that was fair for her to have a friend who wasn’t rooting for her. I missed her, but I also became the best version of myself after I walked away because I wasn’t constantly comparing myself to her. Every situation is different but I hope that helps you some!

I was in the same spot with an ex boyfriend. He made me feel bad about myself so I was always depressed. I got put on meds because it was getting mad. Once we broke up and I didnt have to hear him putting me down my depression and suicidal thoughts went away!!
Sometimes it's the people you surround yourself with. Not a permanent mental issue that needs medicated.
